Katharina Hennig storms to second place

Katharina Hennig reached a sensational second place when Sweden's Frida Karlsson won the classic mass start of the Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup 2024 in Oberhof. „It was a really cool race. We had great skis and it was really loud along the Birxsteig. Some of the people there stood in rows of four and that really motivated us“, said the 27-year-old.

The athlete from Saxony was accompanied to Oberhof by a large delegation, including her fan club, who cheered loudly. „I was able to enjoy it. In a race over 20 kilometers you have a little time to look up. That distracts a little bit from the pain“, she said about the support along the course.

The podium was completed by Kerttu Niskanen from Finland. Local hero Victoria Carl finished a strong fourth place. „Katha and Vici are world class. It's a dream come true when you can perform so well in such a setting“, commented national coach Peter Schlickenrieder. He could be proud of the whole team: Katharine Sauerbrey in 16th place, Laura Gimmler in 20th and Lisa Lohmann in 26th rounded off the good result of the DSV team.

The Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup 2024 in Oberhof will come to an end tomorrow, with the women's relay (10.50 am) and the men's relay (13.10pm). It will be exciting and tactical. In front of the home crowd, we want to show that German cross-country skiing is back“, Schlickenrieder said.
